About us.
For more than 14 years SONE has assisted the Sew N Know Program served over 2,000 students (150 disadvantaged youth annually) in the District of Columbia. The Sew N Know program has been effectively executed in more than a dozen different DC Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) facilities, many of which are located in some of the most economically challenged areas of the District.
The focus of the organization's program(s), Sew N Know Afterschool, Sew N Know Summer Enrichment Fellowship and DC Creative Institute Apprenticeship, is to introduce thousands of the District's youth to the art, science, and business of apparel construction within the fashion industry. The goal of the program is to effectively teach sewing disciplines in order to build youth's self-confidence, explore their own creativity, learn entrepreneurial skills, and ultimately assist them to become economically self-sufficient.
